Guided Cellar Tour in the Jura Mountains – Comté Cheese Experience

Discover the unique world of Comté cheese maturation within the historic  19th-century military fort transformed into maturing cellars in 1966.

Perched at 1,100 meters altitude in the Jura Massif, between Lac de Saint-Point and Métabief, this remarkable site has become an iconic location where over one million wheels of Comté have been aged in a natural cave-like environment for more than 60 years.

Jura Comté Cheese Maturing Cellar Tour Experience
t's impressive to see all these millstones. Cecile Gerardin

It's impressive to see all these millstones. The guided tour is very interesting, and the taster's professionalism is evident. And of course, I'm not talking about the incredible aromas of Comté during the tasting. It's worth the detour for a small price.

An incredible visit Kevin Henry

An incredible visit to learn about Comté cheese and its production. The place is unique and worth the detour if you're passing through. The guided tour is super interesting, and the tasting and exploration of the crafts around the fort are also worthwhile. Be careful, the interior is cool and smells strongly of ammonia.
