Starting at €28 | 1.5 Hours | Parties of 2 to 20 | Cocconato

Quick Details

In the Monferrato hills of Cocconato d’Asti, where Piedmont’s vineyards stretch across every ridge, this 1.5-hour experience is the most personal way to understand the wines of northern Italy. It opens with a handcrafted Vermouth — lavender, citrus, and local botanicals combined into the region’s most iconic aperitivo — before moving through three of Piedmont’s most celebrated native varieties: the velvety Barbera, the vibrant Dolcetto, and the elegant, age-worthy Nebbiolo. A board of local Robiola cheese, Grissini, and seasonal specialities accompanies the tasting. A sommelier guides every glass. Available in English, Italian, Spanish, and French. One of the most authentic wine experiences in the Monferrato wine zone.

A 1.5-hour guided wine tasting in the rolling hills of Cocconato d’Asti

In the Monferrato hills of Cocconato d’Asti — one of Piedmont’s most scenic and undervisited wine zones — this 1.5-hour guided tasting opens with a handcrafted Vermouth: a botanical blend of lavender, citrus, and local herbs that serves as the perfect introduction to the flavours of the region. Three wines follow — Barbera with its deep colour and velvety texture, Dolcetto with its vibrant fruit and approachable structure, and Nebbiolo with the elegant complexity that makes it one of the world’s great red grapes. A board of local Robiola cheese, Grissini, and seasonal regional products accompanies each pour, rooting the tasting in the food culture of Cocconato. A sommelier guides the full experience. Available in English, Italian, Spanish, and French. Vineyard and cellar included.

Highlights

Vermouth Made on the Estate — The Perfect Opening
This tasting begins where Piedmontese hospitality has always begun — with a glass of Vermouth. Handcrafted on the estate from lavender, citrus, and local botanicals, this is not a commercial aperitivo poured from a supermarket bottle. It is a drink that captures the aromatic landscape of Cocconato d’Asti in a single glass — and the ideal introduction to the flavours that follow.

Three Native Varieties — The Full Piedmont Red Wine Story
Barbera, Dolcetto, and Nebbiolo are not just three wines. They are three completely different expressions of the same Piedmont hillside — each with its own grape variety, its own production method, and its own personality. The Barbera is deep and velvety. The Dolcetto is vibrant and approachable. The Nebbiolo is structured, complex, and built to age. Tasting all three in sequence, guided by a sommelier, gives you the complete picture of why Piedmont is considered one of the world’s great wine regions.

Robiola and Grissini — Local Products That Belong With These Wines
Robiola is one of Piedmont’s most celebrated cheeses — soft, creamy, slightly tangy, and perfectly matched to the acidity of Barbera and the freshness of Dolcetto. Grissini were invented in Turin, less than an hour from Cocconato, and have been paired with Piedmontese wine for centuries. The board that accompanies this tasting is not decorative — it is a genuine expression of how people in this region eat and drink.

A Sommelier Who Knows Every Vine
The guide for this experience is a trained sommelier with deep knowledge of the Monferrato wine zone — the subregion of Asti where Cocconato sits. Every pour is accompanied by the story of the grape, the vintage, and the decisions behind the wine. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced wine enthusiast, the sommelier adapts the depth of the conversation to your level.

Cocconato d’Asti — Piedmont’s Best-Kept Secret
Cocconato d’Asti sits in the Monferrato hills, between the more famous wine zones of Barolo and Asti Spumante. Most visitors to Piedmont never make it here — which means those who do find one of the region’s most authentic and unhurried wine experiences. The landscape of rolling vineyards, medieval villages, and family estates that define Cocconato is exactly what people imagine when they think of Italian wine country — and rarely find.

Highly recommend! Shaun mason

We wanted to visit an organic producer in the area north of Asti, and this winery looked particularly interesting after reading about their wines, wine making philosophy, and values. We spent about 1.5 hours with Cecilia at the newly constructed tasting terrace which is situated above her vineyards (worth it alone for the super view from this high spot in Cocconato) and she talked us through the various aspects of biodiversity that are followed. With a wide range of excellent white and red wines it is difficult to choose a favourite from the tasting, but the white blend of Viognier/Riesling/Sauvignon and the red Grignolino stand out for us based on their outstanding flavours which suit our palates. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the wines, so it's well making the effort to step away from the more popular Piedmont villages and producers to visit Cecilia.
