Premium Wine Tasting in Cocconato d'Asti — 6 Wines with Winemaker

Starting at €54 | 2 Hours | Parties of 2 to 20 | Cocconato

Quick Details

This is the premium version of the Cocconato d’Asti wine experience — 2 hours, 6 wines, and Luigi Dezzani, the family winemaker, as your guide. Luigi does not just pour and explain tasting notes. He tells you where each grape came from, how it evolved over centuries of Monferrato winemaking, and what the many nuances of each wine reveal about the land and the vintage. Six labels from the full range are presented in sequence, each paired with traditional delicacies from Cocconato that are chosen specifically to balance and enhance each wine. This is wine education at the level of a masterclass — delivered in one of Piedmont’s most authentic family wine settings.

A 2-hour guided tasting of 6 Piedmont wines led by Luigi Dezzani

In the Monferrato hills of Cocconato d’Asti, this 2-hour premium tasting goes further than any standard wine experience. Luigi Dezzani — the family’s own winemaker — guides you through 6 wines from the full estate range, approaching each one with genuine technical depth: the history of the grape variety, its evolution in the Monferrato terroir, and the specific nuances that distinguish each label from the one before it. Traditional Cocconato delicacies accompany each wine, selected to create the precise balance between food and glass that only a winemaker knows how to achieve. The stories Luigi shares along the way — of the land, the family, and the wines themselves — are as much a part of the experience as the tasting. This is Piedmont wine culture at its most personal and most informed.

Itinerary

  • Arrival at the estate in Cocconato d’Asti. Welcome from Luigi Dezzani and introduction to the tasting format and the 6-wine selection.
  • First wine — Luigi presents the opening label with its grape history and how this variety first came to the Monferrato hills. First food pairing served.
  • Second and third wines — the tasting progresses through the range. Luigi explains the technical choices behind each wine — fermentation, ageing, and what distinguishes each label. Food pairings continue alongside.
  • Fourth and fifth wines — deeper into the range. Luigi shares the stories of Monferrato: the land, the family, and how the winemaking tradition has evolved across generations.
  • Sixth wine — the final label presented. Luigi explains what makes this wine the conclusion of the journey and how it reflects the full character of the estate.
  • Open time — guests ask questions, explore the wines further, and purchase bottles directly from the producer.

Highlights

Luigi Dezzani — A Winemaker Who Tells the Story Behind Every Bottle
Most wine tastings are guided by someone who knows the wines. This one is guided by the person who made them. Luigi Dezzani is the family’s winemaker — the person responsible for every decision from vine to bottle. When he explains a wine’s nuances, he is not reciting a tasting card. He is describing choices he made himself, in a vineyard he knows intimately, from a grape variety whose history he has studied for decades. That is a completely different level of wine conversation.

Six Wines — The Full Range in One Session
The standard tasting covers 3 wines. The Premium covers 6 — the complete estate range, presented in a sequence that tells the full story of what Monferrato viticulture produces. Each label is a chapter: different grape variety, different production method, different nuance. By the end of 2 hours with Luigi, guests understand not just what these wines taste like but why they taste that way — and that understanding stays long after the last glass is empty.

A Technical Approach Without the Jargon
Luigi’s approach to wine education is technical in substance but accessible in delivery. He explains the history of each grape variety and its evolution in the Monferrato terroir — giving guests the context that transforms a wine from a pleasant drink into a meaningful expression of place and tradition. Whether you are a complete beginner or a serious wine enthusiast, the depth adjusts to meet you where you are.

Traditional Cocconato Delicacies — Chosen by the Winemaker
The food pairings in this tasting are not selected by a caterer. They are chosen by Luigi specifically to create the right balance between each wine and its accompaniment — the kind of pairing knowledge that comes from growing up in a food and wine culture where the two are inseparable. Every element on the board has a reason to be there.

The Stories of Monferrato — Wine as Living History
The Monferrato is one of Italy’s oldest wine zones — a landscape shaped by centuries of viticulture, family estates, and a winemaking tradition that predates most of Italy’s more famous wine regions. Luigi’s stories place every glass in that context: the history of the land, the evolution of the family, and why these wines taste the way they do today. It is the kind of conversation that turns a tasting into a memory.

Highly recommend! Shaun mason

We wanted to visit an organic producer in the area north of Asti, and this winery looked particularly interesting after reading about their wines, wine making philosophy, and values. We spent about 1.5 hours with Cecilia at the newly constructed tasting terrace which is situated above her vineyards (worth it alone for the super view from this high spot in Cocconato) and she talked us through the various aspects of biodiversity that are followed. With a wide range of excellent white and red wines it is difficult to choose a favourite from the tasting, but the white blend of Viognier/Riesling/Sauvignon and the red Grignolino stand out for us based on their outstanding flavours which suit our palates. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the wines, so it's well making the effort to step away from the more popular Piedmont villages and producers to visit Cecilia.
