Vineyard Walk & Wine Tasting in Cocconato d'Asti — From Vine to Glass

Starting at €35 | 2 Hours | Parties of 2 to 20 | Cocconato

Quick Details

This experience starts where all wine starts — in the vineyard. The walk takes you through the rows of the Vallìa vineyard, a Barbera d’Asti plot whose name and character are central to the estate’s organic winemaking philosophy. Along panoramic balconies and scenic trails, the guide explains the principles of organic viticulture: how the soil is managed without synthetic chemicals, how biodiversity is encouraged between the rows, and what the Cocconato hillside gives to the Barbera grape that nowhere else can replicate. The experience ends with a tasting of 3 wines — guided or self-selected from the range — plus a glass of the estate’s own Bicerìn of Vermouth, paired with local Cocconato products.

Walk the Vallìa Barbera d’Asti vineyard & taste 3 organic wines

In the Monferrato hills of Cocconato d’Asti, this 1h45 experience traces the full arc from vine to glass. The walk moves through the rows of the Vallìa Barbera d’Asti vineyard — one of the estate’s most emblematic organic plots — along panoramic balconies with views over the Piedmont landscape and scenic trails that reveal the vineyard from the inside. The guide explains the principles of organic Piedmontese viticulture: soil management, biodiversity, and the role of the Cocconato terroir in shaping the character of the wines. The experience ends with 3 wines — guests choose guided or self-selected tasting — plus a Bicerìn of the estate’s handcrafted Vermouth, accompanied by local Cocconato products. Shaun Mason described “a wide range of excellent white and red wines” and called the views from this high point in Cocconato “worth it alone.” Available in English, Italian, Spanish, and French.

Highlights

Start in the Vineyard — The Part of Winemaking Most Tours Skip
Most wine experiences start at the tasting table. This one starts in the vineyard rows — in the specific plot where the Barbera d’Asti grapes that end up in the glass are grown. Walking through the Vallìa vineyard with a guide who understands organic viticulture puts every wine you taste afterwards in a completely different context. You understand the soil, the exposure, the altitude, and the decisions that shape what is in your glass.

The Vallìa Vineyard — Organic Barbera d’Asti on a Panoramic Hillside
The Vallìa is not just a field of vines. It is an organic plot at one of the highest points in Cocconato, managed without synthetic chemicals and with active biodiversity between the rows. The panoramic balconies along the walk offer views over the Monferrato hills that Shaun Mason described as “worth it alone for the super view from this high spot in Cocconato.” The vineyard itself is as much a part of the experience as the wines it produces.

Guided or Self-Selected — You Choose Your Tasting
This is the only experience at this estate that gives guests the option to choose their own wines rather than follow a guided selection. Guests who want expert guidance can follow the tasting led by the guide. Those who want to explore independently can select their own 3 bottles from the range. The Bicerìn of handcrafted Vermouth accompanies both formats — the estate’s own botanical creation that opens every experience with the flavours of Cocconato.

The Bicerìn of Vermouth — A Detail That Belongs Only Here
A Bicerìn is a traditional Piedmontese serving — a small glass, a generous pour, a moment of deliberate pleasure. The estate’s handcrafted Vermouth, made from local botanicals, arrives in this format at the end of the vineyard walk and the start of the tasting. It is a transition between the land and the glass — and one of the most distinctively Piedmontese details of the entire experience.

Organic Viticulture Explained From the Inside
The Monferrato hills are home to some of Italy’s most progressive organic wine producers — farms that have rejected industrial viticulture in favour of methods that protect the soil, encourage biodiversity, and produce wines of genuine terroir expression. This walk is the most direct way to understand what organic viticulture actually means in practice — not as a marketing label, but as a set of daily decisions visible in the vineyard rows around you.

Highly recommend! Shaun mason

We wanted to visit an organic producer in the area north of Asti, and this winery looked particularly interesting after reading about their wines, wine making philosophy, and values. We spent about 1.5 hours with Cecilia at the newly constructed tasting terrace which is situated above her vineyards (worth it alone for the super view from this high spot in Cocconato) and she talked us through the various aspects of biodiversity that are followed. With a wide range of excellent white and red wines it is difficult to choose a favourite from the tasting, but the white blend of Viognier/Riesling/Sauvignon and the red Grignolino stand out for us based on their outstanding flavours which suit our palates. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the wines, so it's well making the effort to step away from the more popular Piedmont villages and producers to visit Cecilia.
